On June 30th, 2008, the operating assets of Stan’s Lumber, Inc. were sold and/or leased to Brittingham & Hixon Lumber Co. Technically, the Stan’s locations in both Elkhorn and Twin Lakes, Wisconsin are now operated by Brittingham & Hixon Lumber Co., but from a customer’s standpoint other changes at these two locations are few, if any.
The new owners will use the trade name “Stan’s” at both of these facilities and you will note many of the same people serving you and delivering material that you have worked with in the past. Product quality and service to the customer continue to be prime objectives of management, just as they have been at Stan’s for many years.
Carl Torstenson, the former president of Stan’s Lumber, Inc., retains top management responsibility for Twin Lakes and Elkhorn. Stan Torstenson, former Chairman of Stan’s, is relinquishing that position, although he agreed to server as a Consultant at the request of the new owners to facilitate this transition.
Brittingham & Hixon Lumber Co., the new operator, was incorporated in Wisconsin in 1987 and currently operates at six other locations in the state. Like Stan’s Lumber, Brittingham & Hixon is a family owned business and is dedicated to being a good citizen and maintaining the values that the Torstensons provided to their customers, employees and communities over the years.
Stan’s Lumber, Inc. was founded by Stan Torstenson in 1982 in Twin Lakes and later purchased Elkhorn Lumber in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. Stan’s grew through a strong sales effort directed towards home builder and contractor customers in the southeast Wisconsin and northeast Illinois and has developed over the years into a prime resource for many professional customers as well as consumers in the area.
